The Brethren

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: John Grisham

Narrated By: Frank Muller

Publisher: Random House (Audio)

Date: February 2000

Duration: 11 hours 37 minutes

Trumble, a minimum security federal prison, home to the usual assortment of criminals -- drug dealers, bank robbers, swindlers, embezzlers, tax evaders, two Wall Street crooks, one doctor, at least four lawyers.

And three former judges who call themselves The Brethren: one from Texas, one from California, and one from Mississippi. They meet each day in the law library, their turf at Trumble, where they write briefs, handle cases for other inmates, practice law without a license, and sometimes dispense jailhouse justice. And they spend hours hatching schemes to make money.

Frank Muller is a legend, and his reading of this John Grisham book is no exception. He brings the characters to life, and provides the right pace and tone needed for the book. The plot has some brilliant twists and turns, and gives both blackmail, the CIA and a presidential election a whole new twist. Grisham doesn't have to rely on high-tech gizmos to make his plots work. The story carries the day. Excellent stuff!

Great story line and another one of John Grisham's page turner. I have now read them all over past 10 years and can't wait for the next.
